Well I apologize for not updating in forever. I've ended up moving back to Missisippi, and set up the tiki in my buddies garage while we finish it out. I have got the decks cut out and yesterday we finished glass taping all of the keel and bulkheads in the starboard hull. I will post some pictures up tomorrow. I ended up loading Beto into a 26' Uhaul truck to transport her home, which was a very interesting sight to see, and made me glad I decided on the 21 and not the 26!

  1. I mentioned earlier that I was going to build a Tiki 21, but now have decided to skip the building part, and go for the custom Tiki 23 that was recently up for sale. We were thinking of moving it the exact same way!

How did it fit? Was it snug? The 23, of course, is 2 more feet in length, and the hulls have about 2 extra feet in width compared to the 21. I'm trying to make sure somehow, before we rent the truck, that it'll fit.

  2. It fit well, Justine. I think I remember that in the 26' truck the length inside was 23.5'. I took a picture with my phone, but I lost my phone overboard booze cruising last week, and no longer have it! If the beam is 2' overall more and not 2' each hull, then it should fit. The only problem we ran into was the wheel well in the back of the truck. I made cradles that were a bit taller to clear the wheel well hump, but that's not hard to do.

  3. Yeah -- the length of the Tiki 23 is exactly 23 feet, and there will only be exactly 5" of wiggle room, so it'll be tight lengthwise. Each hull is almost 4 feet wide at their widest point, and I was under the impression that the Tiki 21 hulls are about 3 feet wide -- thus, Tiki 23 about 2 feet wider overall, not 2' each hull.

I noticed the wheel well hump in google photos of the truck. Roughly how high did your cradle hold the Tiki up in order to clear it?

  4. I think the keel was probably 5 inches from the ground in the front cradle and maybe 8" in the back. I would suggest just making the cradles with like a whole foot gap between the bottom of the keel and the bottom of the cradle. That should work fine. I think the hump was probably six inches or so tall.

  5. Alright, good to know. This is really helpful -- so lucky that you recently did the move, and that you have some info on it. Thanks!
